Blue Lock, one of the best-selling manga in Japan last year, has experienced just as much success in its transition to anime. Its unique take on the sports anime genre with its heavy focus on the individualistic nature of its characters alongside its dark, high-stakes atmosphere, has earned both the manga and the anime adaptation praise among audiences looking for something different. Thus, it’s no surprise that Blue Lock Season 2 is getting a release date sooner than most fans expected.
The first season of Blue Lock finished airing in March 2023. A little over a year later on April 2024, an anime film adaptation of the Episode Nagi spin-off series was released. Now, in October 2024, the second season of Blue Lock will premiere, likely adapting around 50+ chapters. Depending on the episode count, the season’s finale might wrap up the “U-20 Arc,” which spans chapters 109 to 151 in the manga. However, if the season extends further, it could even encompass the “Neo Egoist League Arc” which covers chapters 152 to 155.
Despite dropping teamwork altogether and focusing on each character’s ego, Blue Lock has captivated millions of audiences around the globe. Season 2 should only propel its popularity even further!
What to Expect from Blue Lock Season 2?
Blue Lock Season 1 ended with the titular team receiving their first taste of foreign football as the “World Five” showed them how far they still had to go. Season 2 will up the ante even further. Their next match is a do-or-die for the team. If they lose, the team shuts down – for good. However, winning comes with a chance to play for Japan’s under-20 national team.
Isagi’s growth as a player will be at the forefront once again. Formerly a team-oriented player, Isagi will have to learn how to be more selfish and embrace a “winner-takes-all” attitude if he wants to take the next step.
As you can see, Season 2 won’t take its time building up the tension. Isagi Yoichi and the rest of the Blue Lock crew have a lot at stake right from the start in October 2024, which means audiences will be on the edge of their seats from the beginning…and until the end.
Is the Blue Lock Manga Ending Soon?
Assuming Season 2 adapts 60 chapters, this would place the finale right at Chapter 155. With a similar 24-episode run, the season could potentially air its finale in March. By that time, 320+ chapters from the manga will have been released. This provides enough source material for a potential Season 3 in October 2026, with Season 4 possibly set for October 2028. If we’re lucky, Blue Lock will get a new feature film between each season that isn’t a recap of the previous one.
Of course, all of this is merely speculation. The bigger question is, when will Blue Lock end? At this point, it’s all up to Muneyuki Kaneshiro. However, if he wants the story to continue until Isagi becomes a world-class striker capable of winning the World Cup, we’re easily looking at it stretching past 500 chapters!
