The fall season is always stacked when it comes to anime, and this year it is doubly stacked. October 2024 is bringing all the exciting anime. We’re getting a ton of the most anticipated sequels and some fresh anime adaptations as well. There’s no shortage of hype, from heart-pounding action to feel-good romances, and even some nostalgic throwbacks (yes, Ranma ½ is back!). If you thought last fall was a big deal, just wait until you see the incredible lineup that’s in store this time.
All the anime in this list are ranked based on our personal opinion and the general fan hype surrounding them. From social media buzz to passionate fan debates, these titles are the ones making waves in the anime community right now. So even if your favorite anime didn’t make it to the top spot, don’t worry—it’s all love here!
10. Shangri-La Frontier (Season 2)
Shangri-La Frontier is back! Season 2 is dropping on October 13. But we just had the first season earlier this year! A second season in the same year? We couldn’t be more hyped. The show’s hero isn’t trapped in the game. He’s just having fun playing it. This makes it different from other VR/MMORPG anime. It is the mix of high-stakes adventure and chill gaming that keeps Shangri-La Frontier fresh and fun.
The anime nails everything from intense action to smart game mechanics, making each episode feel like a thrill ride. And if you’re into well-thought-out strategies, teamwork, and epic monster fights—this one’s for you.
9. Ranma ½
The Ranma ½ remake is officially set to drop on October 6, and we’re seriously wondering how this iconic ’90s anime will land with today’s 2024 audience. For those who don’t know, Ranma ½ was THE show that blended martial arts and gender-bending comedy. It’s crazy to think most modern anime fans probably don’t know how influential it was back then. This remake is a huge nostalgia trip for longtime fans, especially since they managed to bring back the majority of the original voice cast!
The original show had its fair share of chaos, centered around Ranma Saotome, a martial artist cursed to turn into a girl when splashed with cold water (and back to a boy with hot water). And so starts all kinds of hilarious situations as he tries to navigate life, love, and a lot of martial arts battles. The series was definitely a product of its time, but it also pushed boundaries in some ways that we wonder how 2024 audiences will respond to.
And let’s not forget—Ranma ½ was created by Rumiko Takahashi. She is the same legendary mind behind the Urusei Yatsura franchise, which got its own anime update in 2022 and launched its second season, just earlier this year.
8. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (V)
Season 5 of DanMachi is set to adapt the Goddess of Fertility arc from Volume 15 of the light novel, and things are about to get wild! Fresh from a harrowing escape from the dungeon in Season 4, Bell is ready for some rest at the Goddess Festival. It’s an event in Orario that celebrates the goddesses of fertility. But of course, nothing’s ever that simple for Bell Cranel.
He soon receives a mysterious letter from Syr, a barmaid with more to her than meets the eye. The letter invites him on a date at the festival. It sets the stage for romance and intrigue…and some heart-stopping moments between Bell and Syr. As if that wasn’t enough, the Einherjar, a group of “the strongest” warriors, are on the move. It’s only a matter of time before chaos erupts in Orario.
Season 4 had some of the best character development in the series, especially with Ryu, and if Season 5 maintains that momentum, we’re in for a treat. Expect more action, more heart, and, of course, more Ryu and Bell moments to keep our hearts racing. Mark your calendars for October 5th—it is gonna be epic!
7. Blue Exorcist -Beyond the Snow Saga
We’re getting two seasons of Blue Exorcist in the same year! Can you believe it? We used to wait for years between seasons, and now 2024 is spoiling us. Take a look at this wild timeline: Season 1 – 2011, Season 2 – 2017, Season 3 – 2024, and Season 4 – 2024!
It actually feels weird not having to wait another seven years for more Rin, Yukio, and their demon-hunting squad. The Beyond the Snow Saga picks up right after the events of Season 3, so if you’re not caught up yet, now’s your time to dive in. Expect intense action, eerie demonic encounters, and the classic sibling drama between Rin and Yukio.
And by the way, what’s up with all these “Blue” anime? This is actually just the first show on this list with Blue in the title. It’s like Japan has decided that 2024’s theme color is blue.
6. Blue Lock (Season 2)
Titled Blue Lock vs. U-20 Japan, Season 2 is set to release on October 5, and YES, we get it—why is this so low on the list? Season 1 was beyond hype, and the fandom is buzzing for the sequel. But let’s be real for a second…the trailer PV for this season had fans a bit worried.
The trailer’s animation left a lot to be desired, and fans didn’t hold back. The comments section under the PV was flooded with disappointment:
“8bit, I swear to god, you better not ruin the U-20 arc. It’s literally the best in Blue Lock!”
“I feel like I just watched a visual novel intro…”
“The animation looks so low-budget, bro. WTF.”
It’s safe to say that fans are hoping for a serious glow-up once the U-20 Japan arc starts because it’s arguably Blue Lock’s best arc. With such high expectations and so much hype surrounding this next chapter, Blue Lock Season 2 has a lot to prove. We’re all praying for some serious improvements, but hey, even if the animation isn’t up to par, the story’s gonna be fire. Right? Maybe we can move this one several seats up…later?
5. Dragon Ball Daima
This one’s big—Dragon Ball Daima marks the final work of the legendary Akira Toriyama. It’s both poetic and emotional that his last project ends where it all began—with Kid Goku. This new series also celebrates the 40th anniversary of Dragon Ball, which was first published way back in 1984. It’s hard to believe it’s been four decades of Dragon Ball greatness!
The series seems to be Toriyama’s own take on Dragon Ball GT, with Goku once again searching for the seven dragon balls. Due to a mysterious conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small and must set off to a new world to undo this. Expect a blend of nostalgic adventure and intense battles, with Goku using his Power Pole for the first time in ages!
Fans are both excited and emotional, as this will be Toriyama’s final project. But with him being deeply involved in the story, character designs, and world-building, Dragon Ball Daima promises to be a fitting tribute to his incredible legacy.
4. Blue Box
Blue Box is bringing a refreshing dose of romance, badminton, AND…basketball? Count us in! If you’re also tired of romance anime filled with fan service or over-the-top drama, this one’s a perfect change of pace. Blue Box is a sweet and chill love story that focuses on real emotions and relatable characters. Even though it’s serialized in Shonen Jump, it’s similar to one of those incredible Shoujo series (with awesome characters) with its relaxed tone and slow-burn romance.
The story follows Taiki, a regular high school badminton player, and Chinatsu, the basketball star he has a crush on. By some twist of fate (a typical anime plot), they end up living together. We see their relationship develop in a super wholesome and authentic way. Unlike many high-energy romances, Blue Box is more believable. Its characters feel grounded. Taiki is just an average guy. Chinatsu is cool and determined to achieve her goals. Whether you’re here for romance or sports action, this anime is sure to hit you right in the feels…so mark your calendars for October 3rd!
3. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 – The Conflict
The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War saga is far from over! Part 3, titled The Conflict, is set to continue the intense showdown between Yhwach and Ichigo’s allies, premiering on October 6th. Picking up right where Part 2 left off, this cour promises non-stop action from the get-go. And trust us, you’ll want to brace yourself for the biggest Bankai moments in Bleach history. (No spoilers, but you’ll be talking about this for weeks!)
Wondering if Part 3 wraps up the saga? Not yet. This season will deliver 13 episodes, with the epic conclusion arriving in Part 4, also slated for 13 episodes. With long-awaited battles, iconic moments, and major twists, The Conflict is easily one of the most anticipated anime releases this fall.
2. Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World (Season 3)
The king of isekai anime is finally here to reclaim the throne. After a long wait of three and a half years since Season 2, Re:ZERO is back with Season 3, and fans couldn’t be more hyped. This new season kicks off a year after the previous events and introduces a fresh setting, where Subaru faces his toughest opponent yet. Oh, and in case you missed it, the first episode is a 90-minute banger! That’s right, you’re basically getting a Re:ZERO movie on October 2nd. Better block out your schedule now!
Season 3 is packing not just one, but two major arcs. The first eight episodes are the Attack arc, and the back half will be the Counterattack arc. Judging by the trailers, the animation looks crisp, and the voice acting? God-tier. So yeah, it’s going to be epic. And hey, even if you’ve accidentally (or not so accidentally) seen some leaks, do the right thing—support the official release. The team behind this deserves it.
Speaking of leaks, Re:ZERO Season 3 wasn’t spared from the massive August 2024 anime leak fest. Netflix and Crunchyroll were hit with breaches that also leaked Dandadan and Mononoke: Phantom in the Rain. Even Re:ZERO’s premiere episode, complete with French subs, got out early. It was supposed to debut at the Japan Expo Paris, but here we are! Either way, we’re all still dying to see Subaru struggle again—because let’s be real, what’s Re:ZERO without Subaru suffering?
1. Dandadan
Dandadan is probably the wildest anime dropping this season, and fans of the manga know exactly what kind of chaos to expect. If you think you can predict Dandadan, think again! Because this is an “anything goes” story that somehow holds it all together, no matter how off-the-rails it gets.
The story follows Takakura and Ayase, two high schoolers with completely different beliefs—one swears by ghosts, and the other is all about aliens. Naturally, they end up fighting both. What could go wrong, right? The storylines are so unpredictable that there’s literally a plot where the MC has to fight to get his balls back. Yeah, it’s that kind of anime.
Studio Science SARU is handling the adaptation, and they’re absolutely perfect for capturing Dandadan’s zany, hyper-energetic vibe. Known for their bold, creative animation, we couldn’t be more stoked about this choice. With all the hype, it’s safe to say that October is going to be absolutely nuts when Dandadan hits on October 4th.
