After more than six years of pumping out action-packed arcs and crazy techniques, Jujutsu Kaisen will hang up its boots as one of the most epic mangas in the world. The manga has undoubtedly brought in some amazingly thrilling battles and lovable characters that can feed generations of future readers. From awesome showcases of power from Gojo and Yuji to unexpected plot twists, there have been countless moments wherein the battle between sorcerers and curses blew up social media.
However, some moments stood taller than the rest. The series is well-known for its exhilarating fights and fan-favorite characters, and the best scenes in the manga often added these two elements together in a way no other shonen series has done before. With almost 300 chapters under its belt, here are 10 Jujutsu Kaisen manga moments that completely stood out and took over X (formerly Twitter)!
10. Takaba vs. Kenjaku (ch. 239-243)
When Jujutsu Kaisen 239 first came out, Kenjaku was at the peak of his powers. He was the mastermind of the Culling Game and had Sukuna and other curses by his side. Sorcerers left and right were trying their hardest to stop this man, but to no avail. However, for five long chapters, it was as if this seemingly unstoppable villain would fall at the hands of an unexpected hero. It wasn’t a pound-for-pound battle against Yuji or a sorcery masterclass against Gojo; it was against a comedian named Fumihiko Takaba.
Takaba, a stand-up comedian, awakened his powers during the Culling Game. At first, fans thought he was just added for comic relief. However, his cursed technique was soon revealed – “Comedian.” Whenever Takaba thinks something is funny, it becomes real. Although his technique is quirky, it allowed him to fight on equal footing with Kenjaku, giving fans plenty of hilarious moments and cheesy punchlines. A comedian going head-to-head with one of the series’ main villains? Sounds like fun.
9. Yuji Taunting Sukuna (ch. 265)
Holy moly. One of Yuji’s defining moments came during Jujutsu Kaisen 265 when he tried persuading Sukuna to see things in a different light. However, Yuji realized that he’d failed in doing so and that Sukuna was an uncontrollable monster who always had it his way. Sukuna was disappointed in Yuji, seeing that all his rage only amounted to a quick walk in the park. When the King of Curses put it all together and saw that Yuji was pitying him, Yuji gave Sukuna this iconic gaze. I, for sure, will remember it for a long time.
In this scene, Yuji threatens Sukuna to let go of Megumi and offers him a chance to get back into Yuji’s body and live a normal lifeâimplying that he can end Sukuna’s life right then and there. Threatening the King of Curses, the enigma that killed your beloved sensei, friends, and thousands of peopleâthat’s peak Jujutsu Kaisen cinema right there. Who’s staring death in the face now, Sukuna?
8. Yuta’s Domain Expansion (ch. 249)
Usually, being second-best isn’t worthy of celebration. But if the one you’re following is Satoru Gojo, being second doesn’t sound too bad. This man is known as the legendary Yuta Okkotsu. His lack of appearances in the series’ main timeline makes him one of the most anticipated and loved characters. As one of the modern era’s most talented and strongest sorcerers, Yuta consciously clouds his abilities in mystery… until JJK 249.
After slicing Kenjaku’s neck during an ambush attack with Todo, he faces Sukuna and truly shows what he is capable of. With the future of jujutsu on the line and the main perpetrator in sight, he finally reveals his Domain Expansion named “True and Mutual Love.” His domain expansion is a deserted field with seemingly infinite swords scattered around. These swords are imbued with all the cursed techniques he has previously copied from their original users.
Unlike other Domain Expansions, he can choose whatever sure-fire technique befitting his opponent. In Sukuna’s case, he picks Angel/Hana’s Maximum Output: Jacob’s Ladder. The only condition within the domain is that Yuta doesn’t know what cursed technique is imbued in each swordâmaking for a random selection of techniques. Special-grade sorcerers like Yuta surely boast of an awesome Domain Expansion, and fans have finally been treatedâand who better to use it on than the King of Curses?
7. Maki’s Awakening (ch. 149)
Maki Zenin has minimal cursed energy because she was born alongside a twin, Mai. Twins are deemed bad luck in the world of jujutsu as they split the capabilities of one supposed sorcerer. Maki couldn’t even see cursed spirits without the help of glasses imbued with cursed energy. But despite all the limitations, she still made it as a sorcerer, to her family’s disappointment.
In Jujutsu Kaisen 149, after being disowned by their family and thrown into a labyrinth of curses, Mai sacrifices herself so that Maki can unlock her true potential. Through a Heavenly Restriction that took all her remaining cursed energy, Maki’s physical attributes were upgraded a hundred-foldâcreating a monster similar to Toji Fushiguro.
With this strength, she wiped out the Zenin clan in one nightâeven the next leader, Naoya, and her father couldn’t stop her. Fans went rampant on X (formerly Twitter) and even said: “Oooh bro, every old head in the zenin clan is F*CKED. Itâs a wrap for all of them.“
6. Yuji vs. Mahito (ch. 132)
Jujutsu Kaisen 132 was when everything changed. Yuji was a pacifist, trying to make a name for himself in the jujutsu world without having to kill. But after Mahito “killed” Nobara…it was the first time fans saw Yuji with the utmost intent to kill. At the time, Mahito was one of the strongest curses in the series with his cursed technique called Idle Transfiguration. This allowed him to manipulate humans and use them for experiments in whichever way he liked. This technique has already resulted in a few notable deaths, including Junpei and Nanami’s.
In Chapter 132, Mahito was confident in his ability to kill Yuji, a sorcerer who always foiled their plans of ruling over the world of jujutsu. After discovering the true essence of his soul and unlocking even more abilities, Mahito went into the fight, thinking it was the last time he’d ever face Yuji. He thought he had mentally broken Yuji enough by killing off his friendsâbut Yuji turned it all around.
This was when he threw out some of the coldest lines in JJK history: “I’m you. I wanted to reject you. Convince myself that you were wrong. But that doesn’t matter now. I’m gonna kill you. Even if you come back as another curse, Iâll kill you. Change your name. Change your form. Iâll kill you again.â When Yuji starts coming at you with these lines, the only option is to run away.
5. Yuji’s Domain Expansion (ch. 264)
It is no surprise that the reveal of Yuji’s Domain Expansion would be a part of this list. As fans may know, Gege Akutami confirmed that the series was ending this yearâand Shinjuku Showdown will mark the series’ final arc. At this point in the manga, Yuji wasn’t the exciting protagonist everyone wanted him to be. He was often overshadowed by the extreme powers of his peers, such as Gojo and Yuta. If he wanted to prove everyone wrong and remind them who the real MC is, he had to do something bigâand so he did.
Jujutsu Kaisen 264 saw all other sorcerers incapacitated by the wreckage Sukuna had caused. The only sorcerer left to fend off the King of Curses was Yuji Itadori. Yuji was already impressive during this arc, doing almost everything to help sorcerers regain the upper hand against Sukuna. In a surprising turn of events, Yuji unleashed his Domain Expansion (thanks to training with Kusakabe), effectively trapping Sukuna inside. It wasn’t as refined as Malevolent Shrine or Unlimited Void, but it was enough to let Yuji threaten the King of Curses and step up to the plate.
4. Gojo Returns from the Prison Realm (ch. 221)
People don’t realize how long they waited to see Gojo back in action. For reference, Gojo was sealed in Jujutsu Kaisen 91, a chapter released in January 2020. He wasn’t unsealed until Jujutsu Kaisen 221…which was released in April 2023. It took three whole years and some change for this man to return, and it was one of the greatest moments in JJK manga history. As evidenced by the dedicated X page named @howlonginthebox (who counted 1,189 days), millions of fans were waiting for their favorite blue-eyed sensei’s return.
There were many things to consider before Gojo was unsealed. Since the concept of time doesn’t apply to the Prison Realm, the sorcerers and students were concerned about Gojo’s mental stability. He could have been inside for mere seconds, years, or eons. As a precaution, the students gathered in the Kiroko Mines before Hana Kurusu used Jacob’s Ladder on the Prison Realm in case Gojo went on a rampage.
After the technique was used, the group was surprised to see that Gojo was nowhere to be found. But like the absolute badass he is, Gojo made a beeline towards Kenjaku. “Seriously, what is it with you,” Kenjaku asked. You’re dealing with the goat, Kenny. Put some respect on his name!
3. Sukuna Switching Vessels to Megumi (ch. 212)
Fans were so used to seeing Yuji as Sukuna’s vessel that the possibility of him switching bodies seemed impossible, but Jujutsu Kaisen 212 and Sukuna have proven otherwise. Besides, we all know that Gege-sensei loves seeing us gasp!
Since the moment Yuji ingested the first finger, Sukuna has always wanted to get out of Yuji’s body. The only problem was a binding vow prevented him from doing so. But even if it didn’t, he still lacked the necessary power (because of the lack of fingers Yuji had ingested) to escape and a body to serve as his next vessel. However, it was obvious that Sukuna was intrigued by Megumi’s cursed technique since the early parts of the series. The Zenin blood and the Ten Shadows were far too valuable for him to pass on.
In Jujutsu Kaisen 212, Yuji and Megumi attempted to rescue Tsumiki, Megumi’s sister, from the Culling Game. To their surprise, she was being controlled by a reincarnated sorcerer named Yorozu. Seeing Megumi in a shocked and weakened state, Sukuna pounced on the opportunity to take control of Yuji through their agreement (Enchain, a binding vow that allows Sukuna to take over Yuji’s body whenever he pleases for one minute without harming anyone) made during the Fearsome Womb arc.
As Sukuna was back in control, he first incapacitated Hana/Angel. Afterward, he tore off one of Yuji’s fingers and imbued his cursed energy upon it. However, Megumi noticed quickly and prepared to summon Mahoraga. But it was too little, too late. Sukuna dashed toward Megumi and force-fed him his curse-imbued fingerâeffectively transferring vessels from Yuji to Megumi. Megumi has lost too much in this seriesâand that’s not even counting his body. Just give our boy a break!
2. Nobara Comeback (ch. 267)
Like Gojo getting unsealed from the Prison Realm, Nobara’s comeback made X (formerly Twitter) go crazy. Nobara “died” in Jujutsu Kaisen 125 released in October 2020 and made her return to the manga in Jujutsu Kaisen 267, a chapter released in August 2024. That’s almost four years of waiting and some fans already gave up on her return to the series. For the longest time, it seemed Jujutsu Kaisen would forever feature only 2/3 of the iconic group of Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara. But how can you give up on the queen of JJK?
It all happened in Jujutsu Kaisen 267 when Yuji was fighting toe-to-toe with Sukuna. We’re not saying Yuji would’ve lost the battle, but facing the King of Curses is always a bad matchup. After multiple chapters of the two duking it out, the manga finally showed something different: the whereabouts of Sukuna’s final finger. When all hope was lost and the future of jujutsu looked like Sukuna’s to keep, Nobara showed up in front of the final finger and used her trademark Resonance technique on it. “How’s that for Oppapi, you idiot,” she says. Alive and unhinged, Nobara continues to serve and slay in ways only she can. Welcome back, queen!
1. Gojo’s Death (ch. 236)
Even writing about this still hurts. Gojo is truly and deservingly one of the most loved characters not just in Jujutsu Kaisen but in all of anime. His quirky and playful attitude and confidence and pride as the strongest sorcerer to live made for the perfect character. But more than being the protector of the jujutsu realm, he was an inspiring teacher to his students. His unrivaled desire to protect his peers resonated with millions of fans around the world, making his death hurt more than it should’ve.
Jujutsu Kaisen 236 will forever be the most depressing Jujutsu Kaisen chapter ever. Amid the Shinjuku Showdown arc, what kickstarted the action-packed storyline was the fight between Gojo and Sukuna. It wasn’t up for debate; this was the most hyped fight of the series. It was a battle that would determine the future of Jujutsu Kaisen, and it did not disappoint. The two were pulling trick after trick up their sleeves, using techniques that weren’t even introduced in the series yet.
Gege Akutami even pulled off a “Gojo won” in Jujutsu Kaisen 235, making his death all the more unexpected and hurtful. But for the fans who knew Gege, they knew not to celebrate early. In the next chapter, Gojo talks to his old friends Geto, Nanami, and Haibara in an airport. He also pokes fun at Yaga and meets Riko and Kuroi in the venue. Sadly, all these characters were already deceasedâmaking it clear that whatever Gege put in the previous chapter didn’t matter. In the next scene, panels showed a lifeless Gojo cut in half. It was revealed that thanks to Mahoraga, Sukuna cut through the space around Gojoâcompletely avoiding Infinity and winning the decisive duel.
