It’s finally here! The moment Jujutsu Kaisen manga fans can use “Yuji Itadori” and “domain expansion” in the same sentence has arrived—and it doesn’t get any more epic than this. JJK 264 will go down as the first time Yuji uses his domain expansion after six years of the enigmatic series’ existence.
JJK 263 set up Hana and Jacob’s Ladder for success in the next, but it wasn’t that technique that caught fans by surprise in JJK 264. The King of Curses always had something up his sleeve, so a trump card on the sorcerers’ side is always a welcome surprise. In this feature, here’s a look at what transpired in JJK 264 and the imminent arrival of the protagonist’s domain.
Yuji Itadori’s Domain Expansion Reveal in JJK 264
In case you’re not aware, SPOILERS AHEAD. Based on Myamura’s (@Go_Jover) chapter 264 spoilers, Yuji finally thought it was time to show off a domain expansion of his own against the King of Curses, no less. However, before introducing the new member of the Domain Expansion Club, here’s what happened in JJK 264 for better context.
According to the spoilers, the hyped-up Jacob’s Ladder didn’t bring Sukuna to his knees. Instead, he even comes closer to Hana for a hit, but Todo Boogie Woogie-d himself and took the majority of the punch. As Sukuna tries to finish them off, he sees Yuji chasing after him and continues this long-fought battle. The only thing on Yuji’s mind is to use Dismantle on Sukuna to chip away at the barrier between Sukuna and Fushiguro’s souls, but the King of Curses dodges Yuji’s attacks.
Now for the exciting part. As the two go at it, a sudden flashback of Gojo simultaneously fighting Jogo and talking to Yuji about domains appears. Gojo notes that a Domain Expansion uses a massive amount of CT, but buffs the user tremendously and techniques always hit the opponent. And then there it is, a full panel of Yuji and his official hand sign as he utters the most popular words in the JJK fandom “,Domain Expansion.”
The last part of JJK 264 shows Yuji and Sukuna (in Yujikuna form) at a train station. Will this be the final battle? Will Yuji’s Domain Expansion be enough to trample the King of Curses, who even Gojo couldn’t eliminate? As the chapter concludes, the decisive 1-on-1 is set to begin, and Yuji says: “Let’s go! Sukuna!”
Theories Abound: Airport and Train Station Parallels and Fushiguro’s Survival
As a new chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen dawns on its fans, theories are fired quickly on X (formerly Twitter). Despite coming in for just a few pages in JJK 264, @BIGDADDYGOJO has already created an interesting theory about the possibility of Gojo’s revival.
According to them, there could be a parallel between Yuji’s inner domain being in a train station and Gojo. They stated that Gojo’s inner domain was the airport shown after his loss against Sukuna, meaning his soul must still be in his body. Take, for example, Yuji’s “death” earlier in the series where he woke up inside Sukuna’s inner domain and stayed inside Yuji’s dead body. Thanks to the inner domain and Sukuna’s binding vow with Yuji, their souls survived inside the inner domain.
If the airport is indeed Gojo’s inner domain, the Strongest Sorcerer of the Modern Era might have the slimmest chance of a comeback—but the price to pay is steep. To survive inside the inner domain, Gojo has to make a binding vow just like Sukuna did with Yuji. The theory states “Gojo will give up his strength to pursue his dream.” The strength in question? None other than sacrificing one of the six eyes.
If that’s why Gege Akutami illustrated Gojo’s “comeback” in JJK 260 with just one eye, then that’s absolute genius. But, let’s be honest, this one-eye-foreshadowing has been going on for far too long, even before chapter 260!
One more theory states that Yuji will successfully take Megumi back from Sukuna. The ending of the first season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime shows Yuji taking the train with Sukuna’s reflection across him. During the next season’s 19th episode, Yuji and Megumi are seen waiting for the train together. Albeit still far away in the story (or maybe not), holding onto a little hope for 2/3 of JJK‘s favorite trio is all fans could ask for.
